Body Mass Index

Body Mass Index is a screening tool that indicates how “normal” or abnormal a person’s weight may be in relation to his/her height. Body Mass Index does not take into account individual differences i.e. how much lean muscle a person may have and does not always take into account ethnic differences.

Metric
age: years

sex:

height: cm

weight: kilos

If your BMI value is in the normal range that means that your current weight is probably not putting you at risk of developing, for example, high blood pressure.

If your BMI value categorises you to be obese, you may have an increased risk of developing high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol and even diabetes.
