We all have cholesterol in our blood

We all need cholesterol in our blood. Why then all the fuss when someone is diagnosed with “high cholesterol”?

To gain a better understanding, it is important to know what cholesterol is.
Cholesterol is a specific type of fat.

The “condition” of “having cholesterol” refers to a range of blood fat abnormalities or imbalances that may contribute to the development of diseases such as heart disease.

Cholesterol in the blood is only a concern when the levels of cholesterol are higher than the normal range, if there is an imbalance in the different types of cholesterol in the blood
or if other risk factors (family history of heart disease, overweight, smoking, stress etc.) are present.
